An en dash (–), which is slightly longer than a hyphen, is primarily used in number, date, or time ranges. (Chicago Manual of Style §6.78) When following The Chicago Manual of Style, there is not a space before or after the en dash.

  • Please refer to pages 396–399 in The Chicago Manual of Style for more about the en dash.
  • The show is 8:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m. on Friday.
  • He is off October 1–15.

As you can see, the en dash is essentially to in these examples. But note that we do not use from. If you use from or between, then you should use to or and, not an en dash.

  • She will be here between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  • He lived in Pittsburgh from 2010 to 2018.
